In Historia de los heterodoxos españoles, the Catholic scholar Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo praised the Bible of the bear from a literary point of view, which he considered to be better written than the Catholic versions by Felipe Scío de San Miguel (1793) and Félix Torres Amat (1825)
