Lost Meridian
Summer at the North Pole and at the South Pole represent the season in which the respective polar regions experience an increase in temperatures and milder weather conditions compared to the rest of the year. In each pole, summer is characterized by the following aspects:
Summer at the North Pole:
During the summer at the North Pole, which runs roughly from June to September, the region experiences a period of melting ice and rising temperatures. During this period, the sea ice tends to reduce its extent, which allows temporary navigation in waters that are usually covered by ice. Marine life, such as birds, seals and certain mammals, take advantage of this time to feed and reproduce in these more accessible areas.
Summer at the South Pole:
Summer at the South Pole takes place between November and February, and is distinguished by relatively milder temperatures compared to extreme winter. During this season, the region experiences the "polar day" phenomenon, in which the sun remains above the horizon throughout the day, resulting in the absence of night. In the Antarctic summer, marine life in the surrounding waters becomes more active, and temporary scientific bases are often busier with research and activities related to the environment and local fauna.
At both the North and South Poles, summer is a crucial period for many species and ecosystems that have evolved to adapt to extreme conditions. Furthermore, it is a propitious time for scientific research in these unique regions, providing an opportunity to examine the impacts of climate change at the poles and across the planet.
Summer is one of the four seasons that occur throughout the planet, in temperate zones. It is the hottest of them. It follows the warm spring and is placed before the fall of the leaves, that is, autumn.
The main feature of summer is its long, hot days and short nights.
From an astronomical point of view, the summer solstice occurs on the boreal June 21 and the southern December 21, which marks the beginning of this precious season. The equinox, which on the contrary marks the end of the epoch, occurs on September 23 in the boreal and on March 21 in the austral.
When it is summer in the southern hemisphere, it is winter in the northern hemisphere. Hence, when it occurs in the north it is boreal and in the south it is austral.
In summer the dry season is defined and activities such as going to the mountains, to the beach, to the swimming pools are carried out, it is a time of partying and going out with friends.
Summer is the best time of the year for most people.
