New Game Boy goes ballistic - Nintendo of Canada Ltd announces Game Boy Advance system - Brief Article - Product Announcement

VANCOUVER -- Nintendo of Canada Ltd. announced that its portable Game Boy Advance has smashed initial sales records across the country with 50,000 systems sold to consumers during the five days after the June 13 launch.

Nintendo anticipated there would be strong demand for a system that puts the power of gaming in the palm of the users' hand and it has shipped an additional 20,000 units to retailers, bringing total shipments on track to reach more than 120,000 by the end of June, the company said.

Nintendo's Isat new hardware launch occured in 1996, when it released the Nintendo 64 and set an industry record by selling almost 50,000 units in four weeks in Canada alone.
